“Incredible 2013 Pinot Noir. The owners are incredible, warm and down to earth people!! It’s reflected in their wine!”
— Vivino
In the first few years, founders Bob and Denise were simply wanting the vineyard on their property to grow bigger and stronger but didn’t really expect any fruit. In 2010 they did harvest some fruit and invited their granddaughters, who were then aged 10, 9, 8 and 7 to come and participate in the harvest. Harvest is the most fun part of the growing year.
They had been thinking of some appropriate names for the vineyard and thought of names that evoked the beauty of the location such as El Cielo (Heaven). This is “heaven on earth.” Bob had recently visited a South African wine growing region named Hemel-en-Aarde, which translates from Dutch to Heaven and Earth. He was attracted to the Spanish word simply because it seemed more exotic.
When he saw his granddaughters getting involved in the harvest, it led to the thought of creating a name that evoked their youth and enthusiasm which led to the name Las Nietas (the Granddaughters). Perhaps, one day, one or more of them will take on a continuation of this vineyard.
